Vulnerable Sudanese Escape from Death

Millions of Sudanese people in South Sudan have escaped from death after the army forces in the civil war, including older men, vulnerable women and children, had killed tens of thousands. People had been attacked, their homes, stores damaged and their properties, possessions and crops stolen. Their only option was to escape towards the north.

In all cities, including the capital Juba, Wau and Malakal, the situation was getting desperate due to the lack of food, healthy drinking water, medicines, electricity and security. The war was continuing despite the peace accord signed last year between the president of South Sudan Kiir and former vice-president, the leader of the rebels, Machar. The civil war in South Sudan started in 1955 between the Southerners and government in Khartoum. The main reason behind the civil war were ethnic. The Southern people and their leaders used to say they were treated as second-class citizens. This war stopped in 1972 after a peace agreement between the president of Sudan Jafaar Nimiri and rebel’s leader Joseph Lagu was signed.

The second civil war started in 1983, when Dr John Garang became leader of the of the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA). The cause was the same as stated above and continued until 2005, when a comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed between Khartoum government and Dr John Garang the leader of Sudan people's liberation Army (SPLA.)

In 2011, there was a referendum in Sudan, which resulted in the country dividing. A new country, South Sudan was created. Fighting started again in 2016. Nevertheless, this time, sadly, it involved the people of the new country. The reason behind the current civil war in the South, between the president Kiir and his former deputy Machar is power and wealth. They are fighting over oil and natural resources. Tens of thousands of people have died; others do not have food to eat, or have medicines or shelter to protect them from the hottest sun in Africa. Recently, many countries have removed their citizens from South Sudan to protect them from danger.

People in South Sudan are suffering. They have lost their fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters and their children. They have lost everything even their country. Currently, the survivors are either homeless refugees.

There is now a humanitarian appeal to the world, to the international community, to the Charity Organizations and to those who love peace. It asks us to help vulnerable people in South Sudan. Please help us.
